THE AERIAL APPLICATION PILOT WAS MAKING A SWATH RUN 15 FEET ABOVE THE FIELD WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER, AND HE MADE A FORCED LANDING TO A WET FIELD. THE AIRPLANE SLID 75 FEET, STRUCTURALLY DAMAGING THE HOPPER AND RIGHT WING SPAR. ACCORDING TO THE OPERATOR THE NUMBER 2 CYLINDER WAS CRACKED.
THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DUE TO THE NUMBER 2 CYLINDER CRACKING. A FACTOR WAS THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR THE FORCED LANDING.
On May 17, 1994, at 1830 central daylight time, an Aero Commander S2R, N4080X, was substantially damaged during a forced landing near Monticello, Arkansas. The commercial pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local aerial application flight. The pilot reported to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector, that during a swath run at 15 feet above the field, the engine lost power, and he made a forced landing. The field was wet and the airplane slid 75 feet. The hopper and right wing spar were structurally damaged. According to the information provided by the operator, the number 2 cylinder was cracked from the front spark plug to the rear spark plug.
