DURING AN AERIAL APPLICATION FLIGHT, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND MADE A FORCED LANDING INTO A PLOWED FIELD WHERE IT NOSED OVER. EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE REVEALED THAT THE NO. 6 CYLINDER SEPARATED IN THE AREA OF THE COOLING FINS.

On May 24, 1995, at 1900 hours Pacific daylight time, the pilot of a Grumman G-164B, N6774K, experienced a loss of engine power during takeoff near Robbins, California. The aircraft crashed into a plowed field and nosed over. The aircraft received substantial damage and the pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time for the local 14 CFR Part 137 aerial application flight. The pilot reported that the No. 6 cylinder had separated in the area of the cooling fins. The engine was overhauled on July 22, 1992, and had accumulated about 1,092 hours since overhaul.
