On September 2, 1996, approximately 1940 eastern daylight time, a Cessna T-210N, N6614Y, was substantially damaged when it went off the end of the runway and impacted an embankment during landing roll at the Weltzien Skypark Airport, Wadsworth, Ohio. The certificated private pilot/owner was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions existed. No flight plan was filed and the flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91. The pilot was on a proficiency flight and departed the Wadsworth Municipal Airport, Wadsworth, Ohio, approximately 1900. The pilot stated that he completed touch and go landings on runway 20 at Wadsworth Municipal, and then flew to Weltzien Skypark Airport, which was less than 5 miles away. On his downwind leg for runway 21, the pilot observed the windsock to indicate calm winds, and he configured the airplane for a short field landing. With 30 degrees of flaps set, and 75 knots airspeed indicated, the pilot touched down long. The pilot stated that he thought he could stop the airplane on the runway; however, after heavy braking, the airplane went off the end of the runway, crossed a state road, and came to a stop in a ditch. The Canton Regional Airport, Akron, Ohio, 18 miles east southeast of the Weltzien Skypark Airport, reported winds at 1951, to be from 020 degrees at 4 knots. The pilot stated that when he exited the airplane, he noticed that the windsock indicated a tailwind for Runway 21.
