Aviation safety reports, made easier to study

NTSB Reports is an independent research and search tool for public aviation accident and incident records. It brings NTSB aviation reports, structured fields, docket files, extracted figures, photos, videos, and update history into one searchable interface.

The goal is practical safety education: make it faster to find relevant investigations, compare similar events, review factual records, and understand the evidence behind probable-cause and preliminary reports.

The investigative work and source records belong to the National Transportation Safety Board and the published investigation record. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NTSB.

Full Narrative

On July 8, 1993, at approximately 1015 central daylight time, a Cessna 172M, N13722, sustained substantial damage at the Lamesa Municipal Airport, Lamesa, Texas, following a loss of control during an aborted landing. The student pilot did not sustain injury. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed throughout the area for the cross country flight. The pilot report to the Board revealed the following information. The pilot was aware of the right crosswind. Flying over the runway numbers at approximately 15 feet above the runway, a sudden loss of lift occurred and the airplane landed hard on the runway and bounced back into the air. As the pilot added full power, the airplane stalled, hit the runway and the visual approach slope indicator as the airplane departed the left side of the runway. The pilot and witnesses reported the winds from the south at approximately 20 knots gusting to 30 knots. The airplane was released to the owner following the investigation.
