ABOUT 3 MINUETS AFTER TAKE OFF AT 500 FEET AGL THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND PERFORMED A FORCED LANDING. AN EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE FAILED TO REVEAL ANY DISCREPANCY THAT COULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH A POWER LOSS.

On December 18, 1993, at 1323 central standard time, a Cessna 182Q, N96591, was destroyed during a forced landing, near Dalhart, Texas. The pilot/owner sustained serious injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the personal flight. During an interview with a Federal Aviation Administration inspector, the pilot reported that three minutes after takeoff from Dalhart Municipal Airport the engine lost power. He further stated that he was at an altitude of 500 feet and was forced to land on unsuitable terrain. An engine teardown, revealed no discrepancies that could explain the loss of power.
