The certificated commercial pilot was landing a tailwheel equipped airplane on runway 01L. The wind was reported to be from 283 degrees at 11 knots. The touchdown and beginning of the landing roll were uneventful until the nose of the airplane began to veer to the left. The pilot applied right rudder, left aileron, and right brake, but the airplane continued to turn left. The right main gear collapsed, and the right wing struck the runway surface. The pilot said there was no mechanical malfunction of the airplane.

On July 3, 1999, about 2047 Alaska daylight time, a tailwheel equipped Cessna 150F airplane, N7911F, sustained substantial damage while landing at the Fairbanks International Airport, Fairbanks, Alaska. The airplane was being operated as a visual flight rules (VFR) cross-country personal flight when the accident occurred. The airplane was operated by the pilot/owner. The certificated commercial pilot, and the sole passenger, were not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed. The flight originated at the Northway Airport, Northway, Alaska, about 1815. During a telephone conversation with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigator-in-charge (IIC), on July 6, 1999, the pilot reported he was landing on runway 01L.
