The left wings on the airplane contacted power lines during an aerial application flight. The pilot was able to land the airplane on a nearby road following the collision.

NTSB Probable Cause

the pilot's failure to maintain clearance with the power lines. A factor associated with the accident was the power line.

Full Narrative

On July 10, 2000, at 1730 central daylight time (CDT), a Grumman G164, N10244, piloted by a commercial pilot, was substantially damaged during a collision with power lines eight miles south of McVille, North Dakota. After the collision with the power lines the pilot landed the aircraft on a nearby road without further incident. The flight was operating under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 137, and was not operating on a flight plan. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The pilot reported no injuries. The aerial application flight departed from a private airstrip near Michigan, North Dakota, at 1720 CDT.
