Aviation safety reports, made easier to study

NTSB Reports is an independent research and search tool for public aviation accident and incident records. It brings NTSB aviation reports, structured fields, docket files, extracted figures, photos, videos, and update history into one searchable interface.

The goal is practical safety education: make it faster to find relevant investigations, compare similar events, review factual records, and understand the evidence behind probable-cause and preliminary reports.

The investigative work and source records belong to the National Transportation Safety Board and the published investigation record. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NTSB.

The Piper PA-32-260 was taking off from an uncontrolled airport and making a left downwind departure. A second aircraft, a Piper PA-28-181, was transiting the area 1 mile south of the airport at an altitude of 1500 ft AGL. The PA-28-181 saw the PA-32-260 just prior to contact and made a descending right turn. The right main landing gear wheel struck the aft portion of the left wing tip of the PA-28-181. The right outboard aileron hinge was destroyed and the aileron bent backward and up. The PA-32-260 received a small cut on the right main landing gear tire and a scrape on the outside portion of the wheel rim. The pilot of the PA-32-260 said he never saw the other aircraft prior to contact. Two passengers, one in the right front seat and the other in the right rear seat of the PA-32-260, both saw the PA-28-181 prior to the collision. Both aircraft landed safely.
