About

Aviation safety reports, made easier to study

NTSB Reports is an independent research and search tool for public aviation accident and incident records. It brings NTSB aviation reports, structured fields, docket files, extracted figures, photos, videos, and update history into one searchable interface.

The goal is practical safety education: make it faster to find relevant investigations, compare similar events, review factual records, and understand the evidence behind probable-cause and preliminary reports.

The investigative work and source records belong to the National Transportation Safety Board and the published investigation record. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NTSB.

During landing on runway 17, the pilot encountered a 90-degree crosswind gust which blew the airplane off the runway. The pilot attempted to abort the landing; however, he "did not make it," and the airplane continued across a grass field, coming to rest upright, in a ditch. The pilot estimated the winds were from 270 degrees at 5 knots, gusting to 15 knots. The winds reported at an airport 8 miles to the southwest, were from 240 degrees at 11 knots, gusting to 16 knots.

NTSB Probable Cause

The pilot's inadequate compensation for wind conditions and his failure to maintain directional control. A factor was the crosswind.
