About

Aviation safety reports, made easier to study

NTSB Reports is an independent research and search tool for public aviation accident and incident records. It brings NTSB aviation reports, structured fields, docket files, extracted figures, photos, videos, and update history into one searchable interface.

The goal is practical safety education: make it faster to find relevant investigations, compare similar events, review factual records, and understand the evidence behind probable-cause and preliminary reports.

The investigative work and source records belong to the National Transportation Safety Board and the published investigation record. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NTSB.

The airline transport certificated pilot landed on runway 04, a snow-covered gravel runway, which required a correction for a left crosswind. The operator reported that after landing, as the pilot was turning the airplane to the left in order to back-taxi on runway 04, a gust of wind lifted the right wing, and the left wing and propeller struck the runway. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing. The operator reported that there were no preaccident mechanical anomalies with the airplane.

NTSB Probable Cause

The pilot's inadequate compensation for crosswind conditions, which resulted in the left wing striking the ground while taxiing. A factor in the accident was a crosswind.
