About

Aviation safety reports, made easier to study

NTSB Reports is an independent research and search tool for public aviation accident and incident records. It brings NTSB aviation reports, structured fields, docket files, extracted figures, photos, videos, and update history into one searchable interface.

The goal is practical safety education: make it faster to find relevant investigations, compare similar events, review factual records, and understand the evidence behind probable-cause and preliminary reports.

The investigative work and source records belong to the National Transportation Safety Board and the published investigation record. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NTSB.

While on short final approach approximately 10 feet above ground level (agl), the pilot added a little power to the engine and then heard a "loud pop" sound. Subsequently, the airplane stalled and the left wing impacted the grass runway. The airplane bounced, impacted trees and a fence, and came to rest inverted adjacent to the runway. No anomalies were noted with the airframe and engine.

NTSB Probable Cause

The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed during final approach resulting in a inadvertent stall and impact with terrain.

Full Narrative

According to the pilot, while on short final approach approximately 10 feet above ground level (agl), he added a little power to the engine and then heard a "loud pop" sound. Subsequently, the airplane stalled and the left wing impacted the grass runway. The airplane bounced, impacted trees and a fence, and came to rest inverted adjacent to the runway. The private pilot, who was the sole occupant and co-owner of the airplane, sustained minor injuries. Examination of the airplane revealed the vertical stabilizer and rudder were crushed.
