On September 4, 2010, approximately 1600 Universal Coordinated Time (UTC), a Mooney M20J single-engine airplane, G-JAST, and a Vans RV-4 single-engine airplane, G-MARX, collided in midair while maneuvering near Ryde, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom. G-JAST was destroyed and G-MARX sustained substantial damage. The two occupants of G-JAST were fatally injured and the two occupants of G-MARX sustained serious injuries. The two local flights departed Bembridge, United Kingdom, at an unknown time. The accident is being investigated by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), United Kingdom.
