On January 22, 2015, about 1700 local (1600 UTC), an Air India Boeing 787-8, VT-ANL, experienced a failure of the right engine, a General Electric GEnx-1B, while in cruise flight and diverted to Budapest, Hungary. The airplane was enroute from London Heathrow Airport (LHR), London, UK to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM), Mumbai, India. This incident is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Bureau of Hungary. The NTSB has appointed an Accredited Representative to assist the investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13 as the State of Design and Manufacture of the airplane and engines.
