About

Aviation safety reports, made easier to study

NTSB Reports is an independent research and search tool for public aviation accident and incident records. It brings NTSB aviation reports, structured fields, docket files, extracted figures, photos, videos, and update history into one searchable interface.

The goal is practical safety education: make it faster to find relevant investigations, compare similar events, review factual records, and understand the evidence behind probable-cause and preliminary reports.

The investigative work and source records belong to the National Transportation Safety Board and the published investigation record. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NTSB.

The pilot reported that while practicing touch and go landings, the airplane touched down and starting drifting left toward the edge of the runway. The pilot applied full power to go around, but the airplane exited the left side of the runway and impacted the ground. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the fuselage and both wings. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failure with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. At the time of the accident, the pilot was landing the airplane on runway 11 with wind 190o at 20 knots, gusting to 30 knots. Following the accident, the pilot reported he should have diverted to another airport due to the high crosswind conditions.

NTSB Probable Cause

The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during an attempted go-around with a strong gusting crosswind.
